In 1994, the National Health Information Awards Program was
initiated to recognize the nation's best consumer health information
programs and materials. As the first awards program of its kind, it is
open to all those who produce materials that address the growing
informational needs of the health care consumer. This recognition program
is presented by the Health Information Resource Center, the only private
sector clearinghouse for consumer health information.

National Health Awards
In July and August of 1997, more than 900 entries for the National Health
Information Awards were judged by a specially selected panel of health
information experts. Entries were grouped and judged by Class, Division, and
Category, with the target audience noted. Using a rating scale from 1 to 100,
each judge evaluated entries for accuracy, creativity, and overall excellence.
The scores were then totalled and averaged. Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Merit
Certificates. were awarded on the basis of these averaged scores.
