NCADI Services
SAMHSA's National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information (NCADI) is
the Nation's one-stop resource for information about substance abuse
prevention and addiction treatment.
The NCADI Information Services Department
The NCADI Information Services Department responds to alcohol and
substance abuse information requests via telephone, e-mail, voice mail,
postal mail, TDD, and fax. Information Specialists at NCADI assist a
wide variety of inquirers, including the general public, drug and alcohol
prevention specialists, drug and alcohol treatment specialists, educators,
schools, community centers, hospitals and clinics, boys and girls clubs,
and shopping centers.
NCADI offers a wide variety of services. Requesters may:
- Place Publication Orders.
NCADI distributes a wide range of free or low-cost materials, including
fact sheets, brochures, pamphlets, monographs, posters, and video tapes.
Information specialists are familiar with the NCADI inventory and can
suggest and provide publications and quantities most appropriate for
the requester's situation or event.
- Speak to an Information Specialist. Information Specialists are trained to answer
questions about alcohol and substance abuse prevention, intervention,
and treatment. NCADI information specialists are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. TDD and Spanish language services are also available. In addition, NCADI provides information through an onsite visitor request service.
- Obtain Referrals. NCADI can refer inquirers
to other alcohol and substance abuse concerned organizations and centers that can provide them with additional
information. Also, NCADI Information Specialists are trained to handle
crisis telephone calls.
